You should highlight "In questa reggia" and "Tu che di gel sei cinta". These two are probably the best renditions of these two arias in the history of this opera. "Nessun dorma" was just ok.

今は亡きマゼール氏指揮のトゥーランドット。この演奏は、従来の演奏とはかなり異質な一線を画す演奏と私は思っています。このライブはレコード化され、私は持っております。演出もそうなのでしょう。かなり、音楽に空間が感じられます。つまり、楽譜通りに演奏しているのにも関わらず、音がギッシリ詰まった舞台ではなく、どちらかと言うと各セクションに空間さえかんじます。実は私は未だにこれを超える物を感じておりません。氏の音や全体を見渡す超人的な耳の成せる技なのでしょう。私が最初にトゥーランドットの全曲を氏のこの録音で始まったのは幸せでした。かなり以前、80年代初期？ですね。のライブです。主人公達の美しさも今、こうして録画で見ると際立っておりますね。氏は確かプッチーニ作品は全て録音されたはずです。氏の録音は日本では相当数出回っていて、優れた耳と音楽性によって難解な作品もらくらくと録音されています。今は懐かしい指揮者になりましたが、氏の名前は数々の録音によって、長く人々に聴かれて行くでしょう。💐

The singing is spectacular and you can even here the organ! The "stairway to heaven" looks like an escalator in Macy's.
It makes me want to break out into "In questa reggia" every time I'm going from watches & jewelry on the second floor to menswear on the first. ; )

I saw this LIVE in Vienna in 1983 at the age of 13 in the uppermost balcony in the standing room on that floor. My only criticism is that we were in a venue where the sound is best on lower floors. I know that because although I've only been at that venue twice; the other time was when I saw Gotterdammerung in 2009 where I was in the standing room in the back centre of the orchestra level and the sound was loud enough when the music was supposed to be loud. It made up for the fact that we'd lost the opportunity to see Placido Domingo sing Rudolpho in a Zeffirelli production of La Boheme because the car of the train we were in from Prague got detached from the rest of the train and leaving us abandoned for long enough so that when we arrived in Vienna we were too late to re-confirm our tickets. The 1st thing we did when we arrived in Vienna was to go straight to the opera house were our tickets literally being sold auction style outside the venue when we showed up. One of college students actually started crying, poor fella! But I was happy to see this Zeffirelli production of Turandot w Jose Carreras, Eva Marton and Katia Ricciarelli. Besides: I prefer the music to Turandot than I do La Boheme.

カレーラスがまだ若くて、そのすっきりしたハンサムぶりが心地よく、安心して見ていられますね。ただ、オペラを最初から最後まで全曲聴くのはなかなかしんどい！ やはり本来は劇場に行って、観客が一体化して見るべきものでしょう。そしてオペラに限らないが、音楽の評価は、何度も聴き、また、他の指揮者の演奏とも比べたりしてするものでしょう。私にとってまだなかなか入っていけないジャンルです。有名なアリアとか取り出して鑑賞する分には楽しいですが。オペラフリークになってみたいものです。
音楽の授業でオペラ、ミュージカル、バレエについてやった時これ見た
Están los tres solistas bien de voz...la Marton muy bien...la Ricciarelli "todavía" bonita voz para Liu...y Carreras bonito timbre aún sin ser una voz tan heroica y apropiada para hacer un Calaf de categoría...en conjunto buena función con muy buena imagen y sonido.

A spectacular performance! Turandot, Kalaf, Liu sing their role confidently and routinely. Orchestra has not intoned some notes very cleanly. The conductor treats tempos too slowly in some places, and in some notes too long. But you can hear a lot of positive differences from other performances. The conductor has studied the score well. Thanks very much!

Eine spektakuläre Aufführung! Turandot, Kalaf, Liu singen ihre Rolle souverän und routinemäßig. Orchester hat manche Töne nicht ganz sauber intoniert. Der Dirigent behandelt Tempi an einigen Stellen zu langsam, manche Töne zu lang. Aber man kann viele positive Unterschiede zu anderen Aufführungen hören. Der Dirigent hat die Partitur gut studiert. Vielen Dank!

Carreras con tutta la buona volontà non poteva mai essere Calaf Tenore spinto con squillo. Un buon lirico con suoni e tonsille aperte , suono aperto. Nemmeno il buon Domingo , piu potente ma con difficoltà negli estremi acuti. Nessuno può battere il Calaf bronzeo e squillante di Corelli. Per non parlare una delle migliori Turandot , se non la migliore La Nillson ..

They do give the opera a monumental feel.
Marton and Carreras are great. All of the other singers are very good. The production leaves a lot to be desired. Too minimalist. The palace staircase looks like a airline stairway for a propliner.

es mi opera preferida y esta en particular es espectacular, con los trajes y la puesta en escena que ya no te dejan ver en los teatros como en el Liceu de Barcelona que apuestan por unas mierdas modernas que no las entiende nadie
Hay una puesta en escena moderna que me encanta. El Calaf es prescindible, pero Liú y Timur harían llorar a las piedras, y sobre todo la muerte de Liú es bellísima. Detesto eso de mirar feo cualquier reinterpretación de la puesta en escena. Mientras no alteren la música...
@@monainfame Yo detesto la alteración de la obra, Puccini compuso una ópera y a quien no le guste que componga otra. Si entiendes el idioma y estudias el libreto te das cuenta que no hay lugar a interpretación. Cómo un cuadro o como una escultura.

Carreras no es para semejante opera esta al maximo y no impacta en el personaje. el mismo ya de grande admitio que no tenia que cantar operas tan exigidas. El maximo exponente del rol de calaf fue Franco Corelli

Fazit, nachdem ich´s zweimal live im Hause gehört habe: Die Auslotung der Partitur durch Lorin Maazel war atemberaubend. Ebenso Ricciarelli und der grandioseste Charaktertenor des letzten Jahrhunderts, Heinz Zednik, auf der Habenseite. Eva Marton und José Carreras in Partien, welche sie nie hätten singen sollen, rettungslos überfordert. Für welches Fach die Marton überhaupt passte, hab ich nie herausgefunden, ich hörte sie immer nur (Elektra, Eboli, Tosca etc. )verzweifelt brüllen. Carreras hat sich sogar verstiegen, in Salzburg "Radames" zu singen. Schade!
Callas war auch nicht für diesen Charakter. Nillson Ich weiß nicht ... Ich habe keine Lust, sie zu sehen. du hättest deiner Weisheit nach sagen sollen, welcher Sänger passt.

The sets designed for this was horrible - the two story stairway looked ridiculous - staging was awful - thank God for the magnificent music and voices.

La direction de Lorin Mazel est dyonisiaque, Carreras est sublime, Marton est le monstre qu'elle doit être, Ricciarelli la Divine en petite servante... Des voix magnifiques et puissantes... Une direction d'acteurs, une mise en scène et des costumes extraordinaires pour cette histoire insensée qui ne parle que de désir et de dégoût sexuel sur fond de mort, et qu'il est si stupide de traiter de façon réaliste et mièvre. (bon, l'escalier est très moche, dommage)
Eva Marton almost kill tenors with her high notes. You can hear a bit of Carreras in their high C together but Marton wins

Marton, ótima, sem ser a melhor. Carreras é o que ele é, questão de técnica…tem que se gostar dessas notas arrancadas…Ricciarelli está pra lá de Bagdá (ou de Pequim…) e bem no fim de carreira.
Costumes feios e pesadões, décors feios também…aquela escada da Panair onde a Turandot canta a sua grande ária, pelamor…
Le voci sono tutte abbastanza adatte alla loro parte (ma in circolazione - oggi come allora - si possono trovare interpreti migliori, per ciascuno dei personaggi). I costumi sono discreti (anche se fanno spesso apparire il tutto un po' come un teatro di burattini, per non parlare dell'imperatore, che sembra appena uscito dalla sauna) ma le scene sono penose, in specie quella mostruosa scalinata che pare la scala mobile di un grande centro commerciale. Odioso poi il fatto che l'opera si interrompa ogni piè sospinto per dar spazio alla pubblicità!

I've watched about half of this so far. This doesn't compare to the 1987 version with Martin and Placido Domingo. You can find most of it on youtube. It is fantastic! Martin sang better there as well.

As phenomenal as the casts were, it was way too slow it loses so much colour of the piece. No one can beat Mehta conducting this piece
